Research Interests

Computer networks, Photonic networks and systems, Local and Metropolitan Area Networks, Wireless communications, Smart antennas, Low power wireless protocols, Energy-sustainable mesh networking, Solar powered networking, SolarMESH, Bluetooth, Performance evaluation, Queueing Theory.

Professor Todd's research includes both theoretical and practically oriented topics. For this reason he has been heavily funded by the Canadian telecommunications industry and his graduates typically find jobs in academia and in leading companies in the field.

Over the past five years Dr. Todd and his students have had extensive collaboration with Research In Motion Inc., makers of the Blackberry wireless handheld, and other organizations. Professor Todd was also the Chief Technology Officer for ErgoWiFi Inc., which was a high tech startup that is commercializing technology developed in his lab at McMaster University.

Biography

Terry Todd received the B.A.Sc, M.A.Sc and Ph.D degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of Waterloo in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. Dr. Todd is currently a Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. In 1991 Dr. Todd was on research leave in the Distributed Systems Research Department at AT&T Bell Laboratories in Murray Hill, NJ. He also spent 1998 as a visiting researcher at The Olivetti and Oracle Research Laboratory (ORL) in Cambridge, England.

At McMaster he has been the Principal Investigator on a number of research projects in the optical and wireless networking areas. He currently directs a group working on wireless mesh networks and wireless VoIP. Professor Todd holds the NSERC/RIM/CITO Chair on Pico-Cellular Wireless Internet Access Networks.

Professor Todd is a Professional Engineer in the province of Ontario.

He is the former NSERC/RIM/CITO Chair on Pico-Cellular Wireless Internet Access Networks.
